   Résumé
   Le fameux reporter Hildy Johnson veut convoler en justes noces et abandonner la profession quand son directeur lui demande un dernier travail: «couvrir» une des dernières pendaisons avant l'adoption définitive de la chaise électrique. La tentative d'évasion du condamné déboulant dans la salle de presse achève de convaincre le journaliste qui, en acceptant de le cacher, tient le plus beau «scoop» de sa carrière.
   Commentaire
   Les films de Hawks (la Dame du vendredi) et Wilder (Spéciale première) ne doivent pas faire oublier cette première version, un des premiers grands films parlants et le coup de génie de Milestone. La pièce de Hecht et MacArthur est remarquablement adaptée dans ce film qui fait exploser le décor unique et dont la rapidité des dialogues n'a de comptes à rendre qu'à la savante mobilité de la caméra.
